1979 verstarb einer der Hauptakteure der „barocken Revolution“ und der gewiss berühmteste Countertenor des 20. Jahrhunderts: Alfred Deller. Durch seine Höchstleistung hat er es auch geschafft, uns davon zu überzeugen, dass Purcell drei Jahrhunderte zuvor seine Songs eigens für ihn geschrieben hat. Das Publikum der 1960er und 1970er Jahre kam dank Deller in den Genuss nicht nur eines schlicht unnachahmlichen Klangs, sondern auch musikalischer Köstlichkeiten eines Repertoires, das bis dahin in den Bibliotheken geschlummert hatte. Die sorgfältige Remasterisierung der Originalmaster durch harmonia mundi lässt vierzig Jahre nach Dellers Tod seine Kunst lebendiger denn je erscheinen!
