In Italy at the beginning of the 17th century, the Stylus Phantasticus-thought at the time to be "the most liberated method of composition"-broke accepted musical conventions, giving rise to new, more expressive possibilitites. This disc presents a cornucopia of Fantasias, Ricercars, Toccatas and Sonatas by some of the most famous composers of the day, as well as two Romanescas-from which this highly successful ensemble took its name.
"The beauty of the old instruments, so ardently bowed and plucked and played by this 'Romanesca' is overwhelming." CD Review
"Any disc released by Romanesca is a 'must'"Classic CD
