Haydn’s London muses. Haydn’s two visits to London gave the sixty-year-old composer the chance to meet two charming ladies, Rebecca Schroeter and Therese Jansen. Each was rewarded with the dedication of a set of three piano trios. These pieces are amongst the wittiest and most popular of the Austrian master’s chamber works, including in the set dedicated to Mrs Schroeter the justly celebrated “Rondo in the Gypsies’ stile”. As for the trios intended for the virtuoso Miss Jansen, they are as varied in form as they are rich in musical surprises.
This title was released for the first time in 2001.
