Usually, when one thinks of Beethoven and of Variations, the automatic reaction is 'Diabelli'. But in fact the composer was particularly fond of the genre and practised it regularly. This programme brings together all the sets of variations written between 1800 and 1809. Alongside a slight set written like a series of piano exercises, the CD contains a succession of major works culminating in the 'Eroica' Variations op.35.
