Christiane Karg
Biography
Christiane Karg studied singing at the Salzburg Mozarteum and at the International Opera Studio in Hamburg before joining the ensemble of the Frankfurt Opera. Following an auspicious debut at the Salzburg Festival, she has gone on to appear at the Theater an der Wien and the Vienna Staatsoper; the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich; the Komische Oper and the Staatsoper in Berlin; the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus; the Semperoper, Dresden; the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; the Teatro alla Scala, Milan; the Metropolitan Opera, New York; and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
In concert, she has sung with the Berlin Philharmonic and Vienna Philharmonic orchestras, the Orchestre de Paris, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, the Chicago Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio and the Swedish Radio symphony orchestras... and under the baton of conductors such as Daniel Harding, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Mariss Jansons, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Riccardo Chailly, Daniel Barenboim, Kirill Petrenko, Riccardo Muti, Herbert Blomstedt, Manfred Honeck, Iván Fischer, Philippe Herreweghe, and Christian Thielemann, among others.
An outstanding recitalist, she has also released a number of much admired recordings (two of them led by Pablo Heras-Casado, for the harmonia mundi label) and garnered several international awards.
